About the event

Varsity is one of the largest events in the student calendar in Canterbury.

Each year it sees two institutions, the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, go head-to-head in a week full of fixtures to showcase the best of University sport.

At its heart you will see healthy rivalry between two institutions working with one another to promote Friendship, Pride and Passion through a celebration of sport. Varsity is highly publicised across both Canterbury campuses and online, with students, staff and other stakeholders taking an active role as spectators and supporters.

In 2024, 1,500 tickets were sold for the Rugby fixtures, and over 4,000 people were in attendance across the entire week of events.

Lupe Sellei

I am Lupe and I am the Sponsorships Manager for Kent Students' Union.

We are a registered charity, independent of the University of Kent, here to act as the voice of all Kent students. A students’ union is responsible for supporting students' during their time at university and to make sure their voice is heard.

In addition to lobbying and campaigning, we help facilitate around 250 Student Groups who provide countless hours of volunteering opportunities, sporting activities and access to groups of like-minded students. We also provide free on-campus Advice and Jobshop services and run several entertainment outlets to bring our members together.

Our student groups provide countless opportunities to meet tonnes of new friends with similar passions and interests, providing an opportunity to meet the people who might help make all the positive differences students are looking for. 

One of the main activities our Sports Teams get involved with is Varsity, where Kent and Christ Church students compete during a week-long event featuring over 40 fixtures.
