About the event

The Smoke Over Barbecue Competition is an annual event organized to support the Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department. Now in its second year, this unique competition is the only one of its kind in the area. The funds raised from this event will be used to purchase new equipment for our fire department, enhancing our ability to better serve the community. Last year, we experienced tremendous success thanks to community involvement, and we aim to make this event even bigger each year. We are currently seeking donations to assist with prize money and to expand the event. Every contribution, regardless of size, is greatly appreciated.

The Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department, a beacon of hope, was founded in the year 1980. Serving the charming realm of Green Spring in Washington County, Virginia, we also embrace the enchanting shores of the South Holston Lake area. Our fleet includes three marine motor crafts, patrolling the glistening waters on holidays and ready for heroic water rescues. In our steadfast commitment to safeguarding the community, we maintain a total of six engines and trucks.

To ensure our brave firefighters remain at the peak of their prowess while protecting those in need, we proudly utilize a rehab trailer. With a spirit of continuous growth, we are ever-upgrading our equipment and enhancing our training endeavors. From Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, we also have dedicated paid employees from the county, alongside our selfless volunteers who generously devote their time to this noble cause.
