On Saturday 30th August, we’re hosting a one-night-only, live stage event celebrating one of Scotland’s most iconic sports teams — the Paisley Pirates. It’s a night built for fans, players past and present, and the wider community to come together for stories, laughs, and a few surprises.

Held at the Wynd Centre in the heart of Paisley, the show is part sports talk, part comedy, and part local love letter. Think “An Audience With…” meets a chaotic team night out — with microphones.

We’ll be sitting down with key figures from the club’s long history — players who pulled on the jersey in its glory days, and those keeping the legacy alive today. There’ll be live Q&As, raffle prizes, and exclusive merchandise. And to set the tone? A no-holds-barred comedy opener from the Wee Man — because no good Pirates tale starts quietly.

Hi, I’m Calum Wilson—facilities manager by day, ice hockey player by night, and founder of Wild Haggis Protein around the clock.

I’ve always believed in doing things with heart, whether that’s supporting athletes trying to make their mark, coaching my hockey teammates, or launching a protein brand built on community and grit. I started Wild Haggis Protein in 2019 with the idea that I could build something not just for myself, but for others too. After the pandemic threw a spanner in the works, I brought it back in 2022 with a renewed focus: to grow it full-time and use it as a platform to spotlight up-and-coming athletes, ambassadors, and everyday legends just trying to better themselves.

When I’m not managing facilities at the University of Strathclyde or working with the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland, you’ll likely find me on the ice with the Glasgow Stags or helping steer the ship for the Paisley Pirates—where I handle their website, media content, and marketing comms. I’ve got a soft spot for mic’d-up content, and I’m big on using storytelling and humour to get people engaged. It’s not just about sport or business for me—it’s about giving people something to connect to.

I’ve also got a kids’ book in the works (yep, really)—a cheeky but heartfelt story about a wee mouse named Rupert who chose my house as his family’s home. It’s a side project full of soul, and it means a lot to me.

Fitness-wise, I’m a weightlifter, CrossFitter, and general "get-stuck-in" type. I know what it’s like to struggle with progress, to lose motivation after big weight loss, or to feel like success should feel bigger than it does. I don’t shy away from those things—I talk about them, work through them, and try to help others do the same.

If there’s a uniting theme in everything I do—from Wild Haggis Protein to hockey to bedtime stories—it’s community. Supporting others. Lifting folk up. And probably doing it with a sarcastic quip and a cuppa in hand.
